Dnipro researcher, architect, and blogger Den Weissman told how he discovered a unique architectural object in our city. The building was once located in our city on the territory of the Karl Liebknecht plant (today – Interpipe NTZ).
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – June 19, 2021 – Reports
While conducting research in 2018 on the former old site of the Nizhnedneprovsk Pipe-Rolling Plant, Den Weissman discovered the remains of strange structures in the form of a ring foundation with a large number of already cut supports.
Thanks to the project of the Dnieper researcher Artem Kostyuk oldmaps.dp.ua Den Weissman learned that there was a large water tower on the site of the ring foundation. Aerial photographs of the 1941 Luftwaffe show a hyperboloid engineering structure, which was invented by the outstanding architect Vladimir Grigorievich Shukhov.
Engineer during the revolutionary events of 1917 and early 20s. refused to emigrate to the United States and remained in the Soviet Union, where it was not at all easy for him. In the 1920s, the engineer worked a lot on the territory of Ukraine, where he left many of his creations. Among other things, these are Front and Back Stanislav-Adjigorsk lighthouses, water towers in Mykolaiv, Belaya Tserkov, Konotop, Cherkasy, Pomichna, Peskovka, Shostka, Chasov Yar. These water towers remain to this day.
In Kharkiv and Fastov, the towers were lost. After the survey of the foundation and the research carried out, now we can say with confidence that the Dnepropetrovsk one can also be attributed to the lost towers.
