Moldovan President Maya Sandu has confirmed that she will pay her first official visit to Ukraine in January. She wrote about this on her Facebook page on Thursday, noting that the issue was discussed on Thursday during a working visit to Chisinau by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
“I had a meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba, whom I thanked for the congratulations on the election to the presidency, which came from President Volodymyr Zelensky. It was agreed that my visit to Kyiv will take place in January 2021,” Sandu said.
According to her, during the meeting they discussed the resumption of cooperation between the two countries, which “was blocked for four years (during the presidency of Igor Dodon – IF).”
“We noted the need for cooperation in the field of European integration, strengthening security in the region, in particular through peaceful settlement of the conflict, guaranteeing security in the region and promoting trade. We reaffirmed our mutual support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our states,” Sandu said.
The press service of the parliament also reported that Kulebu was received by the head of the parliament Zinaida Grechana. According to the report, the issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries were discussed during the meeting.
During his visit to Chisinau, Kuleb also met with Moldovan Foreign Minister and European Integration Aureliu Chocoi. The Ukrainian minister was not scheduled to meet with incumbent Moldovan President Igor Dodon.
During the 2016 presidential election campaign, Dodon called Crimea “Russian.” After that, for four years, there were no contacts and visits between Ukraine and Moldova at the level of the presidents and the Foreign Ministry.
