With these statements, sources stipulate that not all such strikes were based on American data and the strike on the command post in Izyum on April 30, where shortly before was the Russian Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov, did not rely on American information. Russia, in turn, did not report a strike on Izyum, or Gerasimov’s trip to eastern Ukraine at all.
But sources in US intelligence told the media a few days ago. Some Ukrainian officials even said that Gerasimov himself came under fire and was wounded, but no one confirmed these allegations: neither other Ukrainian officials, nor Americans, nor Moscow.
Sources say in a New York Times article that Washington would not allow its data to be used to assassinate Russia’s top military leader, to whom it attributes Gerasimov.
Ukraine claims that 12 senior Russian officers have been killed at the front since the start of the war, an abnormally large number, at least by Western armies, Western experts say. Russia has officially confirmed the deaths of two deputy army commanders, Major General Andrei Sukhovetsky and Major General Vladimir Frolov.
The United States has recently openly acknowledged that it shares a wide range of intelligence with Ukraine. NATO’s US allies are also providing Kyiv with information from their intelligence.
