A successful counterattack by the Ukrainian military in the Kherson region may force the Russian occupiers to attract additional forces to the region.

ISW experts confirmed that on May 28, Ukrainian troops conducted a successful limited counterattack near the border of Kherson and Mykolayiv regions, forcing the Russian occupiers to go to the defense. The UAF counterattack was most likely aimed at thwarting Russia’s efforts to establish a strong defensive position in the south, they added.
Although the offensive will not be able to reclaim significant territory in the near future, it is likely to disrupt Russian plans in Ukraine, in particular, may slow down the consolidation of the occupiers in the south, experts said.
