Ukraine Gate – Kyiv – June 17, 2022- Georgian singer Nino Katamadze gave her last interview in Russian. Then it will do it only in Ukrainian or Georgian.
Katamadze made this statement during a press briefing at the Ukraine Media Center in Lviv.
“First of all, I want to say that this will be my last interview in Russian. And I will speak either Ukrainian or Georgian. I understand almost everything in Ukrainian, but I realized that it is difficult for me to speak Russian where Russian bombs are dropped and people are killed. It’s hard for me. Honestly, I don’t know how I can, because I’ve been speaking Russian for 50 years. I will definitely learn Ukrainian, I already understand everything and talk a little bit, “said the singer.
She stressed that since 2014, and especially now, Georgia has supported Ukraine. In the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the whole country came to the square and showed its choice, its support for the Ukrainian people.
“I can say that you will not find as many Ukrainian flags as in Georgia. They hang in every house, a tiny town. Our government is now our weakness. Geographically, we can’t be as sharp as we want to be. This is my own opinion, “Katamadze added.
Famous Georgian singer Nino Katamadze has been visiting Ukraine for several days. She was in Kyiv and visited the destroyed Bucha and Irpin, as well as performed in the Kyiv metro.
The day before, in Lviv, Katamadze visited Ukrainians wounded in the war in a hospital, as well as displaced children in an asylum.
Today, June 17, at the Lviv National Philharmonic, together with the INSO-Lviv Academic Symphony Orchestra and Georgian composer and conductor Nikoloz Rachveli, Nino Katamadze will take part in a charity concert. All proceeds from ticket sales will be used to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
