“The changes are being prepared at the request of the coalition development committee. It is expected that they will be brought up for discussion at the coalition meeting today, July 13. After that, it is planned to consider the amendments in the Cabinet of Ministers, and then at one of the extraordinary meetings of the Seimas,” explained the Secretary of the Interior Martinsh Steins.

The amendments also provide for the expansion of self-government powers in matters of providing support, as well as clarification of other norms to ensure legal clarity.
As a separate issue, in the near future it is planned to promote a support program for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that help Ukrainians. The possible volume of the NGO support program will be around 300,000 euros, but this amount is still planned to be clarified before the government meeting.
In turn, the draft law, which will be presented this week, provides for the addition to the law of another type of primary support — accommodation for a period of up to 60 days. The self-government will be able to make a decision on the placement of the relevant civilian resident of Ukraine for a period of up to 60 days only if the municipality reaches 80% of the actual possible number of Ukrainians accommodated, and it is not possible to ensure the refugee’s residence in another place.
The draft law provides that the state will continue to provide housing, but not longer than until December 31, 2022.
Accommodation costs provided to Ukrainian refugees will be covered by the municipality, taking into account the chosen length of stay, which does not exceed the maximum amount determined by the Cabinet of Ministers.
