“If Twitter simply provides its method of selecting 100 accounts and how they will be verified as real, the deal will take place on initial terms,” Musk said. “However, if it turns out that their SEC filings are materially false, that won’t happen,” he added.
The American billionaire also called out Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal for a “public debate” about the number of fake accounts on the social media platform.
“Let him prove to the public that Twitter has less than 5% fake or spam users every day!” Musk wrote on Twitter.
Details
In addition, Musk polled his Twitter followers to see if they believed less than 5% of Twitter’s daily users were “fake/spammy”. More than 822,000 users participated in the survey, 64.9% of whom chose the “no” option, and 35.1% voted for the “yes” answer.
Twitter declined to comment to Euronews. They have previously repeatedly reported an estimate to the SEC that less than 5% of user accounts are fake or spam, warning that the number could be higher.
Before
At the end of April, Musk entered into an agreement to buy Twitter Inc. for 44 billion dollars.
The billionaire later threatened to pull out of the deal with the company due to “opposition and undermining” of his right to information about fake accounts on the platform, calling it a “clear material breach” of the contract.
In July, Twitter Inc. sued Elon Musk for breaching a deal to buy the social media platform and asked a Delaware court to order the billionaire to complete the merger at the agreed-upon price of $54.20 per Twitter share.
The lawsuit between Elon Musk and Twitter began on July 19.
