Volodymyr Zelenskyi said in an evening video message on August 10 that Russia lost 9 military planes at the Saki airfield. A similar number is given by the Ukrainian investigators of “Scheme”. It is not specified which planes were destroyed.
The publication assumes that all nine lost aircraft were cheaper Su-24MR, then the total amount of Russia’s losses is approximately $55 million, and if the more expensive Su-30SM were $450 million.
Analysts of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) and The New York Times write that at least eight Russian planes “worth tens of millions of dollars” burned at the airfield, without mentioning which ones.
The open-source intelligence project UA Weapons Tracker estimated that at least 11 aircraft were destroyed at the airfield in Novofedorivka – five Su-30SM fighters and six Su-24MR strike and reconnaissance aircraft. In this case, the explosions in Novofedorivka cost Russia approximately $300 million.
Intelligence officials suggest that there may be more destroyed aircraft – it is believed that in addition to the 11 confirmed, four more aircraft were destroyed, but this has not yet been proven.
The international intelligence community InformNapalm claims that satellite images do not show all the consequences of the strike. According to their sources from Crimea, the losses of Russian aircraft after the strike are: eight Su-27s, four Su-30SMs, five Su-24s, six Mi-8s and one IL-20 for a total amount of approximately $380 million.
Later, the occupiers confirmed this information and declared an emergency at the airfield. Traffic jams immediately appeared on the road from Novofedorivka to Saky, and eyewitnesses noticed “fast cars”.
The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the destruction of nine planes of the invaders in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
