At its last meeting in the UN Security Council, Russia exercised the right of a permanent member and vetoed a resolution condemning the Kremlin’s pseudo-referendums in Ukraine and calling not to recognize any changes to Ukraine’s borders.
Details
At the beginning of the meeting, the American Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that in case of a veto by the Russian Federation, the document would be submitted to the UN General Assembly, where states do not have such a right to “show that the world is still on the side of sovereignty and protection of territorial integrity.” The text of the resolution was not made public.
