As the American leader points out, Ukraine has the same rights as any other sovereign country, it must be able to choose its future, and its people should be able to live peacefully within their internationally recognized borders.
“After nearly eight months of this war, the world has just demonstrated that it is more united and more resolute than ever to call on Russia to answer for its violations. Together with the UN General Assembly, we will not experience illegal attempts to annex or seize our neighbor’s land by force. We will stand up for international law, the UN Charter, the rights and protections it grants to Ukraine and its people – and every state and people around the world,” the White House said in a statement.

On October 12, the vast majority of UN countries voted in favor of a draft resolution condemning Russia’s attempt to annex four Ukrainian occupied regions. Thus, 143 countries voted for the resolution, 5 against, 35 countries abstained from voting.
