The Central Bank of Sri Lanka said it could not allow the use of Russian Mir cards in the country due to US sanctions. The corresponding statement was made by the press service of the bank on Twitter .

“Due to US sanctions against the Mir payment system, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, the country’s Central Bank at the current stage is unable to approve the request for the use of the Mir card scheme in the banking system,” the message says.

Cards of the Russian payment system “Mir” have ceased to accept the People’s Bank of Kazakhstan (Khalik Bank) and the Vietnamese BIDV.
On September 19, two Turkish banks, Turkey’s largest private bank, Iş Bankası and DenizBank, temporarily suspended work with the Russian payment system Mir.
