“Tehran’s policy on the war in Ukraine is to respect the territorial integrity of the country,” Hossein Amirabdollahian told Josep Borrell, the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, according to a Twitter post by Iran’s Foreign Ministry.
“Iran does not send weapons to the parties fighting in Ukraine and wants an end to the war and an end to the movement of people,” the statement said.
“The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed that the Islamic Republic is trying to stop the fighting in Ukraine through diplomacy, and advises Europeans to look at this issue realistically.”
Context
Iran has repeatedly denied supplying kamikaze drones to Russia, despite growing evidence to the contrary.
On Thursday, the White House said the Iranian military had visited Crimea to help conduct Russian operations to launch strikes on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine using drones.
John Kirby, public relations coordinator of the National Security Council, said the presence of Iranian personnel indicates Tehran’s direct involvement in the war.
“They can lie to the world, but they definitely can’t hide the facts,” he said.
