Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, in a speech at the 11th Bucharest Forum of the Aspen Institute, said that negotiations to achieve peace in Ukraine have become more difficult due to the increase in human casualties in the war.

“Mere condemnation cannot solve the problem. So we have to act and be creative to achieve peace for Ukraine. This is exactly what Turkey is trying to do. In fact, when we gathered two foreign ministers in Antalya and two delegations in Istanbul at the end March in the first weeks of the war, our efforts were close to fruition. As the loss of life increases, it becomes increasingly difficult to reach a negotiated solution. We believe that war and diplomacy can go hand in hand,” he said.

Cavusoglu noted that Turkey supports Ukraine’s aspirations to return the territories temporarily occupied by Russia, including Crimea, and added that they continue to provide financial assistance to the country.
“At the same time, we are taking various measures to control conflicts and tension. It was not easy to implement and extend the Istanbul Grain Agreement, to organize the IAEA-Rosatom meeting, and the exchange of prisoners,” the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry added.
