Today, LG officially confirmed the closure of its smartphone division. This was quite expected, as there have been repeated reports that the company plans to abandon the production of smartphones. This decision was officially announced after it was approved by the LG Board of Directors.

Also in its official statement, LG added that by abandoning the production of smartphones, it will be better able to focus on mo
re successful areas of its business. These include car components, smart home appliances, robotics, artificial intelligence technologies, and business solutions, as well as various platforms and services.
LG will completely stop releasing new smartphones, will stop supporting and updating the software
for those smartphones that are already in use, depending on the region for different periods of time. Earlier, LG German revealed that Android 11 will be released for LG Velvet 4G / 5G, LG G8X, LG G8S, LG Wing, LG K42, and LG K52.
The current models will continue to be sold, but the company plans to complete the release of smartphones by July 31. Until then, it will continue to work with component suppliers and partner companies to close the smartphone division. The South Korean company plans to continue working on mobile technologies such as 6G, using its experience, as well as working with other companies.
