Kyiv schools are offered to review their curriculum and complete the study of new subjects for 11th-grade graduates by the end of April in order to dedicate their time in May to prepare for the external assessment.
Kiev. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – April 08, 2021 – Education
This was stated in the letter of the Director of the Department of Education and Science in the capital, Olena Vidanyan, to the faculty members, which was published on the website of the Education Department of the Kyiv City State Administration.
According to the head of the education department in the capital, the matter is related to granting academic freedom to school graduates, especially the freedom of eleventh-grade students to choose their educational path in the last month of study.
According to her, changing the education model will provide an opportunity to reduce the number of subjects studied by graduates in May and take into account the individual needs of each of them to increase the chances of enrollment at university.
“We offer those who are ready for this day to review the curriculum and complete the study of new subjects for Grade 11 graduates by the end of April. Because for many years, we have been turning a blind eye to the absurd position: according to the school curriculum, eleventh graders are required to master certain topics by the end of the school year, study and repeat the materials, but in reality, in early May they conduct an external examination of all the subjects studied. Educational groups.
Accordingly, schools are encouraged to convert training in May into counseling prior to an independent external evaluation.
“We propose to conduct the educational process in May on the principle of the educational transfer, dividing the graduates not into classes, but into groups, taking into account their profile chosen for further study outside their home school; To turn the days leading up to the external evaluation into days of immersion in the topic, Vidanyan writes.
She believed that such a model for May’s graduation “would reduce the number of subjects for students, taking into account the individual needs of each of them to complete study (obtain a certificate) and increase the chances of admission to the chosen institution of higher education.”
Today, a graduate’s weekly workload is 36 hours a week (remember, adults have 40 hours). If a school educational transfer is organized, it is realistic to reduce the student’s workload to 12 hours, which is a priority for him, while maintaining the teacher’s workload and salaries according to the definitions, ”confirms the Director of the Education Department.
Olena Fidanyan also noted that there have been schools in the capital that have been practicing their own graduate education model for more than a year.
“Of course, such changes should have been introduced during the entire fourth quarter. We spoke frankly about it with the capital’s school principals. In Kyiv, there are teams that were working even before COVID-19 developing their own school model for graduate education. It has been successfully practiced for many years. “After heated discussions, we decided to start step by step – only those who are sure that it is possible for the educational teams to try this,” said Olena Vidanyan, Director of the Education and Science Department.
