On April 10, 26-year-old Ihor Baitala, who died in the area of the Joint Forces operation, was said goodbye in Lviv. The serviceman served in a military unit as part of the 10th separate mountain assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The disappearance of the fighter in his brigade was discovered on April 3, in the evening, without weapons. There were no clashes at the scene of the soldier’s disappearance at that time. The unit’s command began a search. On April 6, representatives of illegal armed groups handed over the body of the deceased Igor Baitala to the Marinka checkpoint. Considered among the versions of death – loss of orientation and abduction. The investigation is ongoing.
“A young man, 26 years old, private Igor Baitala was motivated, reliable, loved technology. I wanted to serve directly in the combat unit. He performed his official duty, during which he died. The investigation is underway and the circumstances are being clarified, ”Roman Voloshchuk, deputy commander of the 8th separate mountain assault battalion where the deceased served, told Radio Svoboda.
A funeral service was held in the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Lviv. From Lviv, the funeral procession went to Zhydachiv, Lviv region, where the deceased was born, there is a memorial service, then – farewell in the city square and the funeral.
Igor Baitala came from a large family.
The armed conflict in Donbas has been going on since 2014 after the Russian occupation of Crimea. Ukraine and the West accuse Russia of armed support for the militants. The Kremlin denies the allegations and says that only Russian “volunteers” can be in Donbas.
From April 2014 to January 31, 2021, between 13,100 and 13,300 people died as a result of the armed conflict in Donbas.
