“Ukraine is creating a national system of transition to NATO standards. Ukraine is firmly and steadfastly pursuing the course of joining the Alliance. After all, as the President of Ukraine noted, NATO is the only way to end the war in eastern Ukraine,” Shmygal wrote.
He also reminded that this week Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishina presented the launch of this system.
The Prime Minister noted that Ukraine has already introduced 292 NATO standards and guidelines, or 19% of standardization agreements.
“And a third of them have been implemented in the last year and a half. The launch of the national system of transition to NATO standards will allow Ukraine to accelerate its path to full membership in the Alliance,” said Shmygal.
NATO-Ukraine:
On June 12, 2020, the North Atlantic Alliance recognized Ukraine as a member of NATO’s Enhanced Opportunities Program (EOP).
According to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, Ukraine will benefit from expanded access to military interoperability programs and a greater opportunity to participate in NATO military exercises and exchange information, including lessons learned.
Today, 25 February, during a telephone conversation, the NATO Secretary-General reminded Zelensky of the importance of implementing reforms.
On February 9, 2021, Stoltenberg stressed that Ukraine’s approach to NATO membership depends on the success of reforms. In particular, Ukraine must strengthen democratic institutions, fight corruption, and introduce democratic political control over the Armed Forces.
