“We would like a stable and predictable relationship with Russia, which in turn requires open lines of communication to make clear our views, our policies, and our objections to Russia’s actions. And it’s also important to avoid miscalculations, and that’s what you saw yesterday when President Biden picked up the phone, called President Putin and also invited them to meet in the coming weeks, “he said.
Blinken said this, saying the increase in Russian troops near the border with Ukraine, which is the largest since 2014.
“It simply came to our notice then. We know what happened last time, “Blinken said.
“We have also witnessed ongoing attacks by Russian-led forces on the line of contact in eastern Ukraine, which at least as of this morning have killed 12 Ukrainian servicemen since the last week of March. Meanwhile, Ukraine has shown, I think, a real restraint – sorry – of Russian provocations. That’s why we’re focused on that. That is why the alliance is concerned, and we are the only ones worried about it, ”he added.
US President Joe Biden had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 13. In the conversation, the American leader raised the issue of pulling Russian troops to Ukraine’s borders and called for reducing military tensions.
The situation in Donbas has been escalating recently.
In addition, on Tuesday, March 30, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Ruslan Khomchak said in a speech to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine that Russia is gradually increasing its troops near the state border of Ukraine – in the North, East, and South. In total, an additional concentration of up to 25 battalion tactical groups is expected, which, together with the available deployed forces and means near the state border with Ukraine, poses a threat to the state’s military security.
According to Khomchak, as of March 30, 2021, there are 28 battalion tactical groups of the enemy along the state border of Ukraine and in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, namely in Bryansk, Voronezh, Rostov regions, and in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
