According to scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, gross crop production in 2021 will increase by 5.9% compared to 2020, said the director of the National Research Center “Institute of Agrarian Economics” Academician of NAAS Yuri Lupenko, presenting the next development of the scientific team “Forecast of agricultural production in Ukraine in 2021 (March 2021)”.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – April 15, 2021 – Agriculture
The largest growth is forecast for the production of winter cereals, the production of which will increase by 15.9%. Soybeans (+12.2%) of fruit and berry crops (+10.8%), grapes (+8.5%), and sorghum (+8.1%) will also be produced. Production of oilseeds (+ 7.4%) and spring cereals (+3.1%) will increase less significantly, the scientist said.
At the same time, he informed, the volumes of production of the number of plant products will decrease compared to 2020. In particular, this applies to oats (‑19.5%), rice (‑8.3%), rapeseed (‑4%), potatoes (‑3.9%), and vegetables (‑2%).
The growth of the harvest of winter crops, which overwintered better in 2020-2021, is projected due to the increase in sown areas and yields, for other crops – due to increased yields, explained Yuri Lupenko. As for the reduction of production, the factor of reduction of sown areas will be manifested here, first of all, in favor of winter ones.
Last year, crop production decreased by 12.3%, primarily due to winter cereals, corn, sunflower, and soybeans.
Positive expectations for crop production this year are associated with favorable wintering conditions for winter crops and moisture reserves due to snowfall. In the absence of sharp natural anomalies during 2021, there is every reason to increase the total production of crop products, summed up Yuri Lupenko.
