In the Texas city of San Antonio, a man drove into an airport terminal, got out, and opened fire, after which he was shot by a police officer. This was reported by the KSAT TV channel with reference to the statement of the head of the city police department William McManus.

The incident occurred on April 15 at 14:30 local time (22:30 Kyiv time). According to some reports, the attacker was driving a red Mini Cooper, according to others – a gray minivan said, McManus. Leaving the car, the driver started firing but did not hit anyone. At the same time, according to the head of the city police, the attacker had a lot of ammunition with him.
“We are lucky that not many people were injured or killed during this event today,” McManus said.
The attacker was shot by one of the police officers who worked overtime at the airport. After that, the shooter was taken to the hospital. He died of his injuries.
McManus also said that law enforcement officers had previously encountered the attacker. Then he had mental health problems, the police chief explained.
US President Joseph Biden has repeatedly spoken out in support of increasing arms sales. In particular, he proposed to ban the sale of assault rifles and large-capacity stores, as well as to oblige buyers of weapons to pass an identity check.
On April 9, the US president proposed to Congress the first steps towards reducing armed violence in the country. Among the proposed measures – a ban on the sale of weapons, change the status of pistols modified by the stabilizer, as well as allow courts to seize weapons from individual citizens at the request of relatives or others. The governor of Texas then opposed the implementation of these measures.
