Yellowing of leaves is a common problem at the initial stage of pepper seedling development. There can be many reasons for this phenomenon, but first, you should check the following factors:
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – April 18, 2021 – Agriculture
A small amount of landing capacity. The rapidly growing root system has already mastered all the living space available to it, and the upper part continues to grow in the same rhythm. The result is an imbalance when the roots cannot fully saturate the cream. The solution – a careful transfer to a larger planting container (about 1 liter per plant).
Sometimes yellowing can be caused by high soil acidity. Indirectly, this factor will be indicated by purple patches – it can be a barely noticeable bluish tinge, and more visualized blurry spots, which indicates phosphorus starvation. Phosphorus is poorly absorbed, usually in 2 cases: low temperature or low pH. To eliminate this factor, fertilize pepper seedlings with calcium nitrate (1 g per 1 liter of stagnant water or 1 granule per plant) or add a pinch of chalk under each problem plant.
Normalize the temperature, both day and night, check for cold drafts that adversely affect the development of seedlings.
A yellow leaf may indicate a lack of minerals in the soil, such as magnesium. To correct the situation, carefully feed the seedlings with a complex mineral fertilizer for nightshade crops.
Check for stagnant moisture near the roots? Undiluted perlite or peat, the earth often “breathes” badly. The problem can also be corrected by a corrugated tray, which is loosely attached to the bottom of the cups with drainage holes. Water only after the soil is dry enough. If possible, do not place the cups with seedlings too close to each other.
In early April, when many regions of our country begin to turn off the central heating, peppers, demanding a stable temperature and humidity, may respond to yellowing of leaves or edema. Usually, with the timely elimination of negative factors, the situation gradually normalizes.
If the cotyledons turn yellow as the true leaves grow, it is in most cases not scary. Embryonic leaves have fulfilled their function, and now the accumulated nutrients are redistributed to parts of the plant that are actively developing.
Eliminate negative factors, but without bigotry. Peppers, planted in good enough bulky soil, do not need fertilizing at all before planting in the greenhouse. The described measures are rather emergency when the situation develops under the negative scenario already at rather grown-up plants.
