Football club “Barcelona” won a landslide victory over the team “Athletic Bilbao” in the final match of the Spanish Cup. The meeting took place at the stadium “De La Cartouche” in the city of Seville and ended with a score of 4-0 in favor of the Catalan club.

Goals in the match were scored by French striker Antoine Griezmann (60th), Dutch midfielder Frankie de Jong (63rd), and Argentine forward Lionel Messi (68th, 72nd), who scored a double.
The Catalan team faced great resistance from rivals in each round of the King’s Cup. In the 1/16 finals, “Barcelona” in overtime defeated the team “Cornelia” from the lower league with a score of 2: 0. In the 1/8, the Catalans defeated “Rayo Vallecano” (2: 1), after which she was able to beat “Granada” (5: 3) in the quarterfinals in the extra time. At stage 1/2, the “blue-garnet” proved to be stronger than “Sevilla” in the sum of two meetings. After the defeat in the first match (0: 2), the Catalans played at home and beat the opponent in overtime.
Atletico managed to beat four opponents in the previous stages of the tournament. In the 1/16 and 1/8 Basque team was able to pass “Ibiza” and “Alcoyano” with the same score 2: 1. In the quarterfinals of the tournament, the club from Bilbao broke the resistance of “Betis”, winning a series of penalties (1: 1, 4: 1 on penalties). In the semifinals, “Athletic” for the sum of two meetings was “Levante” with a total score of 3: 2. At the beginning of the month, “Athletic” has already held the postponed final of the Spanish Cup last season, in which he lost to “Real Sociedad” with a score of 0: 1. Thus, the Basques failed to realize a second chance to win the trophy.
This year, the teams have already met in the Super Cup of the country. In mid-January, the team from Bilbao was stronger than the Catalan club with a score of 3: 2. In the same month, “Barcelona” twice beat “Athletic” in the Spanish championship (2: 1 at home and 3: 2 away).
The Catalan club is a record holder in the total number of trophies won in the Cup of the country – taking into account the victory over “Atletico”, the team became the winner of the competition for the 31st time. Prior to this draw, Barcelona won the tournament in 2018. The team from Bilbao took the trophy 24 times, the last time in the 1983/84 draw. Then in the final they managed to beat “Barcelona”, the meeting ended with a minimal victory of the team from Bilbao with a score of 1: 0.
Dutch specialist Ronald Koeman has been leading Barcelona since mid-August last year. Thus, the Catalan team won the first title under the leadership of the 58-year-old coach. For Cuman, this trophy became the second in the Spanish Cup – in 2008 he became the winner of the tournament with the team “Valencia”.
