In recent years, smartphone manufacturers have steadily increased the resolution of image sensors, resulting in a huge number of models on the market equipped with 64- and 108-megapixel cameras. However, many understand that high resolution does not provide real advantages over competitors with larger sensors of lower resolution.

A well-known insider Ice Universe said that now Samsung has chosen a different direction: “I heard that Samsung smartphones are actively changing in terms of sensors. The company will return to rationality and not blindly chase high resolution. ”
The source adds that the priority will be the balance between pixel size and sensor resolution. We have already seen the first result of this approach in the Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor, which is a record large (its optical format is 1 / 1.12 inches), while its resolution is 50 megapixels.
The fate of the 200-megapixel image sensor remains unknown. Earlier, there were rumors that the company intends to introduce a sensor with a record resolution this year, and it was also rumored that Samsung is working on 600-megapixel sensors. Given the changing priorities, it remains to be seen how this will affect the aforementioned sensors.
