“Relevant agreements on my behalf were reached by Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishina during a meeting with European Commission Vice President Vera Yurova,” he said.
The digital certificate will confirm that the person has been vaccinated, recovered, and passed the COVID tests.
“The compatibility of the Ukrainian and European certificates will allow Ukrainians to travel freely in Europe,” Shmygal said.
Vaccination passports for tourists
On March 17, the European Commission invited EU member states to create a “digital green certificate” of a single model to facilitate safe free movement within the EU during a pandemic. The certificates will indicate the person’s last name, date of birth, date of issue, information on vaccination, negative test or recovery after COVID-19, as well as a unique identifier of the document.
MEPs intend to consider and approve the European Commission’s proposals for the creation of “digital green certificates” by the summer, which will allow travel within the EU during the pandemic.
On March 29, President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed the need to develop “vaccination passports” that would include data on vaccinations against COVID-19.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health has repeatedly assured that Ukraine will issue international vaccination certificates only for citizens to go abroad, and no other “immune passports” will be introduced in the country.
On March 5, Hans Kluge, Director of the WHO European Office, spoke out against the introduction of “vaccination passports” in the EU.
Experts believe that the introduction of “vaccination passports” could become a new system of discrimination against people.
