Winter rape has long restored vegetation in all regions of Ukraine. However, the pests left the wintering grounds much earlier and now, with increasing temperatures, spread intensively and feed on young plants. In addition, in a complex with sufficient rainfall, optimal conditions are created for the development of diseases, so most farmers after the restoration of the rapeseed vegetation have already carried out the first treatments with mixtures of insecticides and fungicides.

In order to eliminate unjustified losses, field monitoring is a mandatory element of the protection system, as it allows to choose the most suitable period for fungicidal and insecticidal treatments, say UKRAVIT experts. This technique will help protect the crop from a complex of pathogens and pests (species of latent octopuses, cruciferous fleas, leafhoppers, pollinators) and prevent reduced yields.
“Currently, most regions of winter rapeseed cultivation are characterized by exceeding the economic threshold of the harmfulness of cruciferous fleas, latent octopuses, leafhoppers, and other pests. In addition, the plants came out of overwintering already affected by such diseases as downy mildew, Alternaria, Phimosis, Fusarium wilt, and root bacteriosis, – says the head of the agronomic department “UKRAVIT” Alexander Myglovets. – Further increase in average daily air temperatures will promote maximum reproduction, spread, and development of pests, so it is necessary to inspect the fields especially carefully and spray in a timely manner. It should also be borne in mind that after overwintering there is an active increase in the aboveground leaf mass of rape, so it is recommended to provide crops with the necessary nutrients, especially boron.
Alexander emphasizes that for the full realization of the genetic potential of hybrids and varieties of winter rape in the current season, the protection technology must be approached professionally and carefully, taking into account all the features. For the second spring treatment, he recommends the use of a comprehensive insecticideVenon (clothianidin, 200 g / l + alpha-cypermethrin, 100 g / l) and a fungicide Desaral Extra (carbendazim, 250 g / l + flutriafol, 125 g / l). And to ensure strong growth and development of plants, it is necessary to add easily digestible micro fertilizers to a tank mix. Avant-garde Rape and Vanguard Bohr.
Venon has contact and systemic action and provides both a rapid “knockout effect” and a long period of protective action. The drug effectively controls a wide range of pests, including those resistant to pyrethroids, and prevents the emergence of resistance. And thanks to the systemic action, it reliably protects untreated young shoots and leaves of plants.
Desaral Extra is characterized by prophylactic and therapeutic properties and fumigation effect. Due to the combination of systemic active substances with different mechanisms of action, it provides high efficiency against the complex of the most harmful pathogens of fungal diseases for a long period.
Avant-garde Rape contains a balanced complex of macro-, meso- and microelements and meets the needs of culture in nutrients. The first and second spring treatments accelerate the regrowth of the central stem, productive shoots, improve the laying of generative organs, and increase yields.
And since rapeseed is a coprophilous crop, it is necessary to use boron fertilizers, in particular Avangard Boron – because even if your soil contains a sufficient amount of this element, the percentage of its absorption varies between 3-10%. Also, boron is not able to move to new growths, so it is recommended to consistently fertilize rapeseed up to three times with Avangard Boron fertilizer (from the beginning of vegetation recovery to the beginning of flowering). This will promote intensive growth and development of plants, increase their resistance to adverse factors and help prevent the manifestation of boron deficiency.
