Ukraine’s new ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, has left for Washington.

“For the first time since 1999, I am boarding a plane with a one-way ticket. As of today – 24/7 in the ranks of the diplomatic team Ukraine,” Markarova wrote.
On November 20, 2020, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Kuleba reported that I offered the Minister of Finance Oksana Makarov the position of the ambassador of Ukraine to the USA.

He assured that he was satisfied with the work of the current Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Volodymyr Yelchenko and the nomination of a new ambassador was not related to the issues.
On December 30, Ukraine received an agreement to appoint Markarova ambassador to the United States, and President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree appointing her on February 25.
Oksana Markarova was the Minister of Finance of Ukraine from June 8, 2018 (until November 22 – Acting) until March 4, 2020, remaining in office after the elections to the Verkhovna Rada and the change of government.
On the eve of her work in Washington, Markarova spoke about what she would seek from the United States in office.
Among her initiatives are the creation of the “Ukrainian House” in Washington as a platform for meetings of friends of Ukraine and the promotion of Ukrainian culture.
