In Ukraine, there are currently no plans to close TV channels, except for the already closed Newsone, 112 Channel, and ZIK. The authorities have other priorities.

According to Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, the more pressing issue is how the Kremlin media, which are present in Ukraine, could be countered.
“Not to the Ukrainian media, but directly to the Russian media, which are present in our country on various platforms and in a fairly large volume. This issue is relevant, “he said.
According to the Minister, the decision on Medvedchuk’s channels is exceptional.
“I see no substantial reason to continue such sanctions in relation to other channels. It is important to act in the legal field, so the law on the media is important, “Tkachenko said.
We will remind, on October 4, 2018, the Verkhovna Rada supported the address to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine with the offer to enter personal sanctions against owners of the 112 Ukraine and Newsone TV channels and to cancel their licenses.
In August 2019, the SBU opened criminal proceedings against the 112 Ukraine TV channel. The case was opened at the request of its former (nominal) owner Andriy Podschipkov, who recently returned to Ukraine. In the future, the channel’s property may be seized and transferred to new owners.
In September, the National Security and Defense Council stated that there were no grounds for imposing sanctions on NewsOne and 112 Ukraine.
On February 2, President Zelensky imposed sanctions on Taras Kozak, an ally of Viktor Medvedchuk, and the oligarch 112, NewsOne, and ZIK TV channels for five years.
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov stated that it is no longer possible to lift sanctions against TV channels from Viktor Medvedchuk’s orbit. This decision has an indisputable basis and is based on evidence from the SBU, which was collected over 8 months.
On February 9, the Supreme Court received another lawsuit demanding to challenge President Volodymyr Zelensky’s decree imposing sanctions on TV channels close to OTZZh People’s Deputy Viktor Medvedchuk.
The Supreme Court of Ukraine has ruled on two lawsuits by citizens challenging the presidential decree imposing sanctions on TV channels 112, ZIK, and NewsOne. One lawsuit was denied, and the other was given time to remedy the shortcomings.
Employees of Zik, NewsOne, and 112 Ukraine TV channels, which were sanctioned in early February, intend to launch a new TV channel based on Lviv’s First Independent. He can earn in April.
