Famous Lviv theater critic and playwright Halyna Kanarska died in Lviv on April 19. This was reported in the Lviv theater “Resurrection”.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – April 21, 2021 – Ukraine Society and Culture
She was born on May 6, 1956. Her father, Pablo Brightsky, a priest of the UGCC, and her mother, Bohdana Brytska, were repressed.
The mother was able to return to Ukraine from exile in Kazakhstan with six-month-old Galina, but she was banned from living with her family until 1966.
“A report from the prosecutor’s office stated that the accusation of” enemy of the people “was dropped from the mother for” lack of evidence. ” It happened in 1966. Before that, my mother, Bohdana Brytska, had to survive 10 years of Stalinist camps, take part in the Kengir uprising, return with her six-month-old daughter from faraway Kazakhstan, and wander without the right to live with her family. Only the blackest work is allowed, ” Halyna Kanarska recalled.
That is why Halyna had a hard time getting a higher education and looking for her place in the profession.
“When I decided to go to university, my mother warned me that I had no chance. I said with pathos: “In our country, everyone has the right to higher education!” In her memory is a quiet voice: “What do you know about this state ?!”, – said Galina.
However, Halyna Kanarska, despite obstacles, became an extremely important figure in the theatrical life not only of Lviv but of the whole of Ukraine.
From the very beginning, Halyna Kanarska worked at the Voskresinnia Theater in Lviv and wrote extensively in the Lviv and Kyiv media.
A long-time editor-in-chief of Theatrical Conversation magazine, the author of hundreds of reviews, she has been extremely attentive to all theatrical news in the city. It seems that no premiere, festival, or other events in the theaters of Lviv has escaped her attention. Therefore, the creative heritage of Halyna Kanarska is a unique diary of theatrical life in Lviv.
Farewell to Galina Kanarska will take place in the Church of St. Clement the Pope (Gen. Chuprynky, 70). The memorial service will take place on Tuesday, April 20, at 2 p.m. Farewell and prayer from 14:00 Tuesday to 12:00 Wednesday. The funeral will begin on Wednesday at 12:00.
