Colombian President Ivan Duque has ordered the military to be sent to cities where protests against tax reform are underway, accompanied by vandalism and public disorder. This is stated in a video of Duke, which was published on Saturday on the page of his administration on Twitter.

“The military presence factor will operate in cities where there is a high risk to the lives of citizens,” Duke said.
The president stressed that the military was “trained to work in urban areas and will provide support to the police.”
Demonstrations against tax reform have been taking place across Colombia since Wednesday. Riots were recorded in Bogota, Cali, Medellin, and other cities. On Friday, the government agreed to change the text of the reform, but protests continued.
In the second half of April, at least 31 Colombians were injured in an armed attack in the east of the country, when the first destroyed crops of coca, the main ingredient in cocaine.
