Seedlings turn yellow or whiten tops
This is the most common problem with seedlings. It usually occurs when plants are exposed to direct sunlight without hardening.
Too large doses of nitrogen fertilizers or organic matter.
High soil acidity in the garden.
Lack of potassium – the first tops turns yellow.
Early stages of disease or chlorosis.
First of all, the seedlings should be protected from the sun. To do this, we cover the planted plants with plastic boxes. You can make newspaper rings or stretch a net that will shade the plants. They are planted only a week after the seedlings acclimatize, first in the shade and then in the sun.
If the edges of the leaves began to dry or change color, the plants should be fed potassium sulfate, 30-50 g per 10 liters of water.
Lack of nitrogen is manifested in a different way … The leaves begin to shrink and turn yellow, plant development slows down. It is necessary to urgently feed the bushes with ammonium nitrate or urea.
Seedlings turn black
This usually happens to young seedlings (the lower part of the stem turns black and thin) in two cases: the seed was infected or the soil was infected. To protect, both seeds and soil are disinfected, and two weeks before sowing the seeds the soil is watered with a solution of Trichodermin, 5 g per 5 liters of soil.
But do not confuse: for example, if the legs of seedlings turn black in red cabbage – this is normal, but some gardeners pull them out, believing that they are infected. Be patient and follow. If the seedlings do not die, then everything is fine.
If it is still a disease, then the plants should be planted in individual pots, and the soil discarded, the box disinfected with a solution of boric acid.
Seedlings turn red or blue
Red, blue and purple indicate a serious deficiency of nitrogen, potassium, or phosphorus in the soil. Usually, at first, the plants turn pale and only then turn red or acquire a different color. Very often this happens in cold rainy weather.
Output – urgent top dressing with complex fertilizers. But not more than 60 g per 10 liters of water.
