The bill on the media can be put to a vote in the Verkhovna Rada in mid or late May. The Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko said this in an interview with Radio Svoboda.
“I hope that maybe in the middle, maybe at the end. At least we set ourselves a goal, “he said.
According to the Minister, the law has been discussed with the media community for so long that it is already lagging behind the realities.
“In the end, all the discussions come down to the fact that we don’t need to be regulated at all. This will not happen again. Because the world does not standstill. And such regulation exists in Europe, and such regulation begins in America. Therefore, I apologize, we will move together with the civilized world, not as such regulation, as we see now happening in Russia, when a respected publication, such as “Medusa”, is declared a foreign agent. This is a completely different kind of regulation. Civilized, European and by European standards, “Oleksandr Tkachenko added.
