The master has almost four thousand works made by nine types of equipment (the authorship of some belongs only to him).
In 2007, he was included in the ranking of the 100 most outstanding geniuses of today, compiled by the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph. Today, Ivan Marchuk is a recognized master of canvas and brush, and there were times when his art was not recognized in Ukraine.
Marchuk was admitted to the Union of Artists of Ukraine only in 1988, although he is still unknown. In the same year, the artist left Ukraine and went to the United States. Marchuk lived in exile for 12 years, living mainly in the United States, although he also traveled to Australia and Canada.
The artist did not settle down abroad – he, a resident of Kyiv, who likes to walk past the eternal linden trees on Pushkinskaya and visit his native Ternopil region in spring and summer, probably lacked something in distant lands. After the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001, the artist returned to Ukraine.
“Ukraine is the most beautiful land in the world for me,” admits Ivan Marchuk, although he is worried that no matter how many times he has traveled the world, he has never seen such a mess and so much rubbish.
Ivan Marchuk was born into a peasant family. The family lived in poverty, in addition to Ivan had three daughters. All hope was on him, and he turned to artists. After school, he entered the Lviv School of Decorative and Applied Arts later graduated from the Lviv Institute.
He worked as an artist at a furniture factory, painted posters at the Lviv cinema. He found his own style in 1965 – he lived in Kyiv at that time, worked at the Institute of Superhard Materials.
He was tormented that he did not have his own handwriting, that he was imitating someone all the time, but once a miracle happened: “The sluices of my inner tightness broke, I did not have time to record everything that overwhelmed me,” the artist recalls. – I regretted that I could work with only one hand, I wanted to do both at once… Such a flow went! I don’t know where he came from, but it was a stream of freedom… ”Since then, the“ Marchukov ”style has appeared, which you should not confuse with any other.
