Hamburg’s Commissioner for Personal Data Protection and Freedom of Information, Johannes Caspar, has temporarily banned Facebook-owned WhatsApp messenger from collecting user data due to a new privacy policy. This was reported by Bloomberg.

The commissioner believes that the company’s attempt to force users to agree to the updated policy is illegal. He also called on regulators in other European countries to impose similar bans. It is assumed that the restrictions for the messenger will be valid for three months.
In turn, WhatsApp called the claims of the German official “incorrect” and noted that the decree will not stop the implementation of the new policy.
Under the new messenger policy, users must allow WhatsApp to transfer information about them to Facebook. The company wrote that such an event would help them adapt advertising to Facebook-related platforms.
The changes were to take effect on February 8. But due to criticism from users, the messenger postponed the introduction of new rules until May 15.
