No matter how life comes back, the “second bread”, even with simple salt, will always help and feed. And to make the harvest happy, from the very beginning you should pay due attention to agricultural technology.
Processing of potatoes to seedlings from weeds
Planted poorly germinated tubers can delay the emergence of seedlings on the surface for up to 20-25 days. Potatoes with good strong sprouts, planted in fairly warm soil, can germinate in 1.5-2 weeks.
This period should be devoted to weeding control. 6-8 days after planting, gently walk on the soil surface with a rake, removing the first weed buds. If the seedlings are delayed for a week, it is recommended to repeat the procedure.
Note that no herbicides should be used to control weeds.
The first hilling of potatoes
Seedlings emerged from the ground, 2 to 5 cm high, until the leaves open, it is desirable to turn up and sprinkle the ground with a layer of 3-5 cm. In the process, try as much as possible to weed out all the weeds that come in handy.
Before the predicted frosts, abundantly water the aisles and spray the young tops by sprinkling. Use plastic wrap and nonwoven as the main cover.
The first feeding of potatoes after germination
When the height of the bushes reaches 15-20 cm, fertilize the plantings with nitrogen fertilizers. You can use urea, ammonium nitrate, chicken manure in a ratio of 1 to 15, mullein in a ratio of 1 to 5, or “brew” of weeds. Mineral fertilizers do not have to be diluted, just scatter them on the ground 5 cm from the stems. The main thing in this matter – do not try to keep the bushes from getting fat.
After fertilizing the planting is again recommended to turn up. It is desirable to do this after watering or rain so that the soil was moist and promoted better rooting.
From the moment of budding, potatoes lay tubers. During this period, water consumption increases. If possible, mulch with cut grass. Mulch will delay the evaporation of moisture, prevent the formation of surface crusts, slow down the development of weeds.
If the period of the beginning of flowering falls on hot dry days, make additional watering. From this moment, phosphorus fertilizers, which stimulate the formation of tubers, are already in use.
