Motorola will join forces with GuRu to jointly develop truly wireless charging. It is possible that the manufacturer’s smartphones can be charged without placing them on a special panel, literally “in the air”. If Motorola succeeds in creating the appropriate technology, the manufacturer will be one of the first brands capable of providing remote power to smartphone batteries from a distance of several meters.

Future Motorola devices are expected to be built using GuRu RF Lensing technology, which transmits the energy of the required power over a long distance from the base station. Exact information about the timing of its implementation in Motorola models is not yet available, but sources suggest that the new products will not appear before 2022. Until recently, fully wireless charging has suffered from a number of disadvantages. When Motorola first informed the public about its own developments, it was reported to support a distance of about a meter. A similar technology created by Xiaomi is still capable of producing no more than 5 watts.
The GuRu wireless power generator works on other principles. It can be located on the wall or ceiling, and a small receiver will be integrated into a smartphone or other electronics. Millimeter radio waves at a frequency of 30 to 300 Hz are used, the same ones that provide ultra-fast communication in 5G networks over short distances. However, they work differently than for 5G communication.
Instead of a large transmitter that scatters waves in all directions, the GuRu solution uses numerous connected mini-modules that provide accurate transmission and therefore energy savings. This generator is able to transmit electricity to numerous receivers at a distance of up to 10 meters, charging power does not matter. Therefore, the technology can be used with headphones, smartwatches, smartphones, and even tablets and laptops. Thus, the developments of Motorola and its partners are able to bring an appearance on the market of smartphones that do not require any ports. However, it is not necessary to wait for too fast mass emergence of the corresponding gadgets.
