Ukraine expects to receive a statement following the summit of NATO leaders, which will pave the way for a Membership Action Plan. In this context, the issue of the presence of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at the summit is not decisive. This was stated during an online discussion of the Kyiv Security Forum by Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishina.

“We have started work aimed at achieving the expected results of the summit, which will take place on June 14 … We started working in this direction last year, that is, we have been doing this for more than 8 months. Of course, for us in the government, the issue of the President’s physical presence at the summit is not decisive. We focus mainly on substantive issues, “said the Deputy Prime Minister.
According to Stefanishina, the summit of NATO leaders will be an internal meeting, while many allies have already confirmed that Ukraine will be on the agenda.
“It has been 13 years since the Bucharest summit, at which it was decided that Ukraine and Georgia would be granted membership in the future. And now we are in a situation where we insist on fulfilling this promise. Our position is that this promise is confirmed, and at the next summit it will be confirmed, and the statement of this summit will pave the way for the MAP. Of course, these messages will be discussed, they will be confirmed, and we are working out a format in which Ukraine can be physically involved in these discussions, ”she added.
The Deputy Prime Minister also announced that she would meet with the ambassadors of the Alliance leadership in Brussels next week to work out this format.
“But of course, it’s really important to have contact and answers so that Ukraine can be provided with a Membership Action Plan,” she added.
This week, the head of NATO’s mission in Ukraine, Alexander Vinnikov, said that the issue of a long-term partnership with Ukraine would be one of the topics to be discussed at the June 14 summit.
Earlier, information appeared on social networks that NATO ambassadors at the last meeting approved the program of the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which is to take place on June 14, and Ukraine was allegedly not invited to participate in this summit.
At the same time, the Foreign Ministry is still in dialogue with NATO partners on the modalities of Ukraine’s involvement in the summit of leaders.
