On Latvian Radio, the head of the Ministry of Transport pointed out that the incident with the landing of a Ryanair plane in Minsk is an extraordinary situation that raises many questions about the safety of flights in the airspace of Belarus. “Our national airline AirBaltic is constantly monitoring the security situation in the airspace of different countries. And has already decided not to use the airspace of Belarus in its flights. The Latvian Civil Aviation Agency will also make its recommendations, ”he said.
Linkits also urged passengers to follow the current situation with flights to and from Belarus on the website of Riga International Airport and on the websites of airlines operating these flights.
Yesterday at about 3 pm a Ryanair Athens-Vilnius plane made an emergency landing at Minsk airport after receiving a report of a mine. Roman Protasevich, a co-founder of the NEXTA Telegram channel, was on board the plane and was detained.
Alexander Lukashenko personally gave the command to receive the plane in Minsk, the Telegram-channel “Pool One” reported. The head of the communications department of the Lithuanian International Airport, where the plane was supposed to land first, said that there was a conflict between a crew member and a passenger, as a result of which it was decided to land the plane in Minsk. However, according to one of the passengers of the flight, there was no conflict. After boarding, all passengers were taken off the plane, Protasevich was taken aside, and his belongings were taken to the runway.
