The mayor added that the new fare will be acceptable. “I do not rule out that the increase will be in the near future. But we will definitely make sure that this increase does not hit people hard,” he said.
Klitschko also said that he could not announce the size of the new tariff now, as it will become known after studying its economic feasibility.
“But we will definitely make a subsidy from the budget of our city so that the price is acceptable for people who use this transport, and so that there are no delays in purchasing new transport to increase the salaries of people working in transport,” he said.
When asked to name at least approximate terms for the introduction of new tariffs, the mayor replied: “I do not rule out that in the summer we will be able to announce when we can make an increase.”
As UNIAN reported, on May 13, labor collectives of transport utilities “Kyiv Metro” and “Kyivpastrans” officially appealed to the city authorities with an initiative to increase fares. “The situation needs immediate consideration in order to ensure uninterrupted transportation of passengers and pay salaries to teams,” the companies said.
The metro reported that for 2021 the tariff of UAH 21.05 is economically justified, in Kyivpastrans – UAH 25.18 for trams, trolleybuses, buses, and UAH 78.9 – for the city electric train.
