Nigerian police have confirmed the deaths of 26 people who were in a boat that overturned on the Niger River the day before. This was announced by Niger Police Chief Adam Usman.

“So far, 26 people have been rescued, 26 have died and 98 are missing,” the agency quoted him as saying.
According to updated information, there were 150 passengers on board. He left the village of Tungal Mairakumi and went to the market in the town of Birnin-Kebbi.

Adam Usman noted that the search for the missing continues. An investigation is underway. Authorities do not rule out that the boat capsized due to too many people on board.
The boat was overturned on Wednesday by Reuters and AFP. At that time, according to preliminary information, about 140 people were considered missing.
