Usually tulip blooms from March to June – of course, this is influenced by the variety of flowers and the region in which it grows. Usually, its beauty pleases about one and a half to two weeks. But even when the flowers have completely fallen, you can not forget about caring for the plant.

First of all, after the cessation of flowering, tulips should be pruned. During the growing season, a new bulb is formed with a shoot for the next year. In order to leave as many nutrients as possible for the future plant, it is released from the old bud.
How to properly prune tulips after flowering
1. You need to wait until the stem is completely dry. If pruned a couple of weeks after drying, you can harm the plant. If you want to grow large tulip bulbs are cut a week after flowering.
2. You can not cut the leaves – it provides the bulb with the necessary nutrition.
3. Before trimming, disinfect the tool with any means of alcohol, then wipe it dry.
4. Do not forget to mark the place where the bulb is, so as not to accidentally damage it during digging.
In regions where warm winters to dig tulip bulbs is not necessary. But in cold regions it is simply necessary, otherwise, they will weaken greatly. Also, flowers can lose their varietal characteristics – every year the bulbs, hiding from the cold, will sink deeper into the soil, so they will not be able to grow normally in the spring.
