The Dubai Criminal Court heard a businessman accused of threatening to defame his ex-girlfriend if she did not pay him 310,000 dirhams.

Judges were told that the man, who is Syrian, sent an email to his ex-girlfriend threatening her to inform her husband and family of their affair.
The man wanted her to pay him 310,000 dirhams that he said he spent on her while the two were together.
In September 2019, the 49-year-old posted a photo on Facebook of the Argentine woman in a car he claimed he had bought for her.
He wrote several insults under the photo he posted.
The 49-year-old told the officers that she had been romantically involved with the defendant for nearly four years.

She told the court, “He threatened to expose our relationship through an email he sent me.”
She said the man later sent a series of WhatsApp messages to her husband that included inappropriate pictures and threatened her to send the pictures to all of her family and friends.
The woman said, “It ruined my life because I broke up with him.”
At Al Barsha police station, the man admitted to sending threatening emails and posting the photo on his Facebook account.
He was charged with making threats and insults, which he denied before the court.
