Hundreds of people were evacuated overnight in a flood due to heavy rains in New Zealand, the Canterbury area.

At least 300 residents of Canterbury were evacuated overnight as water levels in the region’s rivers rose to record levels over the past 100 years. Several highways, schools, and offices were closed, and New Zealand defense forces used helicopters to rescue some people.
Ashburton Mayor Neil Brown said “half of Ashburton” would have to be evacuated if the river dams burst, but the river “still has enough power.”
The storm in China killed 11 people and injured more than 100.
