“The organized group of senators, which today decided on Milos Zeman’s inability to hold the presidency, has the conspiratorial name of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic,” Fischer wrote.
On his website, he explained that the reason for Zeman’s resignation, the Senate considers his “behavior in a crisis situation related to the attack in Vrbetice.”
Explosions at weapons depots in Vrbetice took place in October 2014. Then two people died.
In April this year, the Czech authorities blamed Russian special services for what had happened. The Czech Republic sent 18 Russian diplomats. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced the search for alleged employees of the General Staff of the Russian Defense Ministry (former GRU) Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov, whom the British authorities believe guilty of poisoning Russian ex-intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his wife.
Moscow denies involvement in the bombings, and Russia has responded to the expulsion of diplomats with similar measures.
Why is Zeman here?
Zeman later talked about two more versions of the explosions, which are being developed by Czech security forces: the desire to hide the lack of ammunition and carelessness in their storage. However, he clarified that he does not adhere to any of them.
At the same time, the country’s Prime Minister Andrei Babish refuted the president’s statement and said that the country’s Interior Ministry is investigating only the version with the participation of Russian intelligence services.
