North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has appeared in public for the first time in the last month. He held a meeting of the Politburo of the 8th Central Committee of the Labor Party, according to the Central Telegraph Agency of Korea (CTAC).

According to CTAC, the meeting took place on June 4. In a photo published by the agency, Kim Jong Un presides over the event. The meeting summed up the interim results of the development of the party and the state in 2021.
The North Korean leader noted that the national development strategy faces many problems, both for objective external reasons and for subjective reasons. At the same time, he said that some projects “are progressing promisingly.”

Thus, the North Korean leader was not shown for 28 days – this is his longest absence in public not only in 2021 but also compared to 2020.
Seoul has said it is inappropriate to draw any conclusions because of this fact, as there are no visible reasons for the North Korean leader’s departure from the public eye.
Kim Jong Un’s longest absence last year lasted 25 days from October 22 to November 16. In the spring of the same year, he twice disappeared from public view.
During one period of his absence, South Korean and Western media suggested that the DPRK leader was not appearing in public due to serious health problems. In particular, Daily NK reported that Kim Jong Un underwent heart surgery, which involved doctors from China.
However, South Korean intelligence later denied rumors of the operation and said that Kim Jong Un’s absence was most likely related to solving the country’s internal problems.
