Earlier, Reuters reported, citing African authorities, that at least 132 people had been killed and 40 injured in a militant attack on the village of Solhan in northeastern Burkina Faso. Burkina Faso is located in West Africa, with a population of about 16 million people. In 1960, the country declared independence from France. Military coups have taken place in Burkina Faso several times, the last of which took place in 2015. Despite the successful seizure of power, the military met with no popular support and returned power to the caretaker government a week later.
Terrorist attacks often take place in the country. Thus, in January 2019, the village of Sikri in Sumy province was attacked, killing ten people. In May of that year, unknown gunmen attacked a Catholic church in the north of the country and killed six, and in December, a militant attack killed 35 civilians and seven security personnel.
