In the Dnieper a year ago, in a strange iron post on Schmidt Street, opposite the regional military registration and enlistment office, specialists miraculously identified a hitching post – a special device to which a harness of horses has tied a century or more ago so that they would not run away. Such constructions in our city can be counted on one hand.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – June 07, 2021 – Reports
But three weeks ago, a unique artifact was dismantled by public utilities – without explaining the reasons and the further fate of the tethering post.
Fortunately, the rarity has not disappeared. Now it will become an exhibit of the new Museum of the History of the Dnieper, which was reported in the museum itself as follows: pre-automotive past of our city will find its place in the exposition of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We are grateful for the support of the museum and assistance in preserving the historical monument! ”
However, not everyone is happy with this scenario. For example, the famous Dnipro designer Max Goldin believes that it would be wiser to restore the tethering post and leave it in its “natural habitat”, rather than dig it up for a museum:
“My point is that this is not true. It is not true to dig up historical artifacts to transfer them to a museum. This may be the only way now, but it may not be the only practice of storage. I’m not a historian and I probably don’t know if the location of this union was historical. But. There is a desire to save – cool. There are ways to save and restrict access. I hope that the horseshoe will be professionally restored and put back in place. “
But the overwhelming majority of the townspeople are glad that this object has been preserved and ended up in the museum.
