The first major event to be held in Jeddah since the exhibition industry shut down in March 2020, during the early stages of the Corona pandemic, opened on Wednesday.

The exhibition of digital projects for the Makkah region, organized by the Emirate of the Makkah region, and which lasts for a week, includes digital presentations that showcase the region’s achievements and development projects.
This is the first event to be held at the Jeddah Super Dome, which with a diameter of 206 meters is said to be the largest pillar-less dome in the world.
Under the theme “Building Man and Developing Place,” the exhibition highlights projects in the region that focus on the intellectual and cultural aspects of life. It also features competitions that the people of the region and its affiliated governorates can participate in.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Prince of Makkah Al-Faisal, and his deputy Prince Badr bin Sultan, accompanied by a number of ministers and businessmen.
The event, which runs until June 15, includes presentations on more than 100 development projects in the region over the past 14 years. These focus on using technology to improve city life in a number of areas, including environmental quality, safety, education, and community development.
The exhibition includes discussions on topics such as the impact of the technological boom on projects in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, and developments in the areas of services, development, and artificial intelligence. It also presents examples of digital projects that help understand the key factors that can make sustainable, equitable, and smart initiatives a reality.
Public and private universities in the region are participating in this event. More than 90 participants will focus on developing plans and programs that support digital transformation in areas such as Hajj and Umrah, tourism and entertainment through dialogue and training.
Prince Khaled Al-Faisal also honored nine winners of the Makkah Excellence Awards during the opening ceremony. A number of health teams in the region were also honored in recognition of their heroic role in confronting the Coronavirus pandemic.
Organizers said that the number of visitors at the fair will be limited and social distancing measures will be applied to protect public health, and hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the venue.
