“May 14, 1938. The English national football team raises its hands in a Nazi salute at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin in the presence of Goering, Goebbels, and Hess. June 10, 2021. The US Embassy wears a Ukrainian national uniform with an embroidered Ukrainian version of Heil Hitler, ”the official statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry reads.

On June 10, employees of the US Embassy in Ukraine supported a new Ukrainian sports uniform with the words “Glory to Ukraine” embroidered on it, taking photos in these T-shirts and publishing this photo.
The post also contains a third photo of unspecified origin. It depicts a piece of photography, probably from one of the scenes of greetings of German troops in Western Ukraine at the beginning of the Nazi invasion in 1941, when they were briefly perceived as “liberators” from the Soviet occupation. The poster pictured in the photo reads “Glory to Ukraine!” and “Heil Hitler!”, as well as the grammatically incorrect phrase Hoch Deutschland, which was probably intended to praise Germany, notes Radio Liberty.
The comments on this post, which Russia considers itself the successor to the USSR, recall, in particular, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and the alliance of Nazi Germany and the USSR in the capture and partition of Poland in 1939.
According to Radio Svoboda, in response to the Russian post, Ukrainian Ambassador to the Czech Republic Yevhen Perebyinis reminded Russia of Russian collaborators with German Nazis during World War II – fighters of the so-called “Russian Liberation Army” in the Nazi troops under General Andriy. fought under the “tricolors”, which are now the state flags of Russia. After publishing a photo of the fighters of this Nazi formation, he wrote: “Russian collaborators with Nazism under the flag that is now flying over the Kremlin.”
Although the Russian Foreign Ministry’s letter mentions only the action of the US embassy on June 10, the embassies of the United Kingdom and Canada in Kyiv also joined it on June 11; The Ukrainian ambassador, whose country is playing its first match with Ukraine at the championship, also expressed support for the Ukrainian uniform.
