On the evening of June 12, Ukrainian translator, publicist, and writer Les Gerasymchuk died. He compiled and published several English-Ukrainian and Ukrainian-English dictionaries, translated “The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe” and was a simultaneous translator for many years.

The death of Lesya Gerasymchuk was announced by the chairman of the National Union of Writers Mykhailo Sydorzhevsky with reference to the words of the deceased’s wife. Gerasymchuk died at the age of 77.
What is known about Lesya Gerasymchuk?
The writer and translator was born in Kyiv in 1944. His mother is a ballerina Lydia Gerasymchuk, his father is a reclamation engineer Abram Nasushkin.
For about 17 years, Les Gerasymchuk headed the information department at the Institute for Integrated Water Resources. He founded and published a number of industry magazines, in which he kept the English-language part.
For 20 years Gerasymchuk cooperated with the All-Union Bureau of Scientific and Technical Translation. He operated systems of 4 languages: English, Ukrainian, Polish and Russian.
Gerasymchuk was the first editor-in-chief of the weekly Vlada I Politika and the Presidential Bulletin.
He periodically worked as a simultaneous translator at international conferences.
He translated from the Greek Bible and published translations of the Holy Scriptures for various categories of the population.
He translated Daniel Defoe and his most famous works, including “The Life and Unusual and Amazing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe”, “North Stories” by Jack London, poetry by Walt Whitman.
