Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – June 17, 2021 – International News
The accident happened on May 3 at about 22:00 local time near Olivo’s station on the 12th metro line in the southeast of the city.
The head of the city’s public works department, Jesus Esteva, said that deficiencies had been found in the building materials and structural supports along the line.
During the investigation, the Norwegian auditor DNV found six flaws in its design. These include missing bolts on some beams and incomplete or poorly performed welding. Specialists also found deformations and cracks in the supporting beams of the collapsed section.
Mexico City Mayor Claudia Scheinbaum has announced that a special team will be set up to repair and strengthen the subway line.
She has faced criticism over the line’s maintenance. The local union said that it is warning before the accident about the danger was ignored by the city authorities.
The incident killed 26 people and began protests in the Mexican capital.
It also put pressure on allies of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, the richest man in Latin America, whose construction company Grupo Carso was involved in the construction of the collapsed railway line.
New reports of the disaster will appear in the coming months. Yes, two more DNV reports will be published in July and August.
Mexico City Metro is one of the largest subways in North America. The population of the Mexican capital exceeds 9 million people.
